Showcase

A selection of images taken to showcase a diverse range of skills and understanding of various deliverable requirements and terminology surrounding photography.

Background

We were required to plan, shoot, edit and deliver a collection of photos with a dedicated professional camera. These photos had to be completely shot and taken for this assignment, using full or semi manual camera modes. Planning required development of a shotlist and an OH&S survey. Following capturing of photos, they were edited in Adobe Lightroom Classic, and then exported as jpeg files using pre determined conventions.

Each image had to match the shot list deliverable requirements;

    • Portrait – Day time – CU or MS (human subject looking at the camera) with a shallow depth of field.
    • Portrait – Day time – WS (human subject, body side-on or facing camera, eyes either looking or not looking at camera).
    • Portrait – Day time – EWS (human subject, body side-on or facing camera, eyes not looking at camera).
    • Portrait – Night time outdoors (human subject looking at the camera, subject’s face is properly exposed) (CU or MS).
    • Daytime or night time – a shot of a human subject with eyes visible taken with the camera at ground level and the ground is visible in the foreground of the shot.
    • Daytime – a shot that clearly shows freezing of motion (subject can be person or non-person).
    • Daytime – a shot of a human subject demonstrating negative space.
    • Daytime – a ECU shot of an object processed in black and white cropped in a landscape 16:9 ratio.

Behind-the-scenes

These images were shot with a Swinburne-hired Canon EOS 80D – it was my first time properly shooting with a Canon, as I was previously a Nikon user.

It’s what got me to actually make the switch, and now I have a beloved Canon Mark III 5D. The photo on the left is me, about 10 minutes after getting it home!
